Starlink in snow

In 2023, the Manitoba government, Manitoba Association of Chiefs of Police, and Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak came together to figure out how they could engage more remote First Nations communities with the local justice system.

Because many Indigenous Peoples live in rural parts of the province, they knew increased connectivity was key and secured grants from the Canadian government to make Starlink internet more widely available. Now First Nations community members can attend court appearances virtually, access victim’s services, and seek other resources aimed at reducing crime and increasing public safety.
